I'm just a bit curious - What do you guy's do with your dogs? Do you take any training classes with them, do you work them at home for fun or as helpers of any kind around your property or do they spend their days lazying about in the shade with a cool drink My girls do their fair share of lazying about, summertime is free from classes so then we try to go swiming as much as possible. Chilis grown up with a spaniel so she's lerned to retrieve in water - no deep sea but she will dare a couple of strokes! We're planning to get better at it though! Rest of the year we train on a regular basis, Mubi does agility and loves it. She's really good at it too! Just wish her mum had half her energy and speed Chili normaly does search (rescue) training but we've had to take this year off for her TPLO's. We're also considering starting her in tracking soon. Both girls will get to try out Rally-obidience on the 16/9 which we're really excited about! The rule of this house though is that if the dog doesn't enjoy a particular class of training - we don't continue - The dog chooses what we train - not me and my preferenses. Thats why I'm struggling with agility;) Ewa

Hi Ewa apart from breeding and training our dogs we like to take them round country parks for walks. We also have a lot of public footpaths through our countryside round where we live for nice long walks. One of our dogs is showing a lot of interest in finding objects we hide so we are going to do some work at home with her and possibly see if she would be interested in search/scent work.I will have to see if there is a club near us that does this and take her along to give her a try.The biggest problem we have is finding time.Regards Paul.

Sometimes I think Bakkies is a Malinois. He needs to do something. I let him run after a ball and to some short obedience with him every day. 3 times a week we have dog-lessons. We do Agility, Wachhund, Schuzdienst, obedience and some aof the "Fun thinks" - no dog really needs them, just fun-tricks. After a day like this is sleeps for a few hours and than he wants more. If I am too tired he plays alone with his tug or chases birds

My boerboel is not that keen to work for a living. All she wants is to be loved and get food, then she is happy. I have tried searching ( food/me )but she loose her interest very quickly. I try to walk 5 kilometers with her every day, also run beside the bicycle. She loves to run,if i run.She does not want to do things by herself. My amstaff i have done lots of things with,he loves to work. Searching ( people, blood tracking, coin tracking.,muschroom tracking) I have trained him in shutzhund.Obediencetraining. He loves to run.He loves to run after his ball.Run beside the bicycle. He is a workaholoc, gets bored if nothing happenes. I try to keep my dogs happy. My boerboel does not have to work when she doesnt want to,i only want to keep her in shape and be happy ,that is all. It is nice to have a relaxed dog at home too.

That´s really funny Helena. It´s the other way round with my BB and AmStaff. He is such a lazy boy. He just loves to eat and meet people. Not to forget - he loves having trouble with other dogs. If he can pick up a fight he is happy *grrr* He still thinks he can handle young Rottweilers. Crazy in the head

Hi Guys Buse will try to search when we are out for walks if one of us hides - but after about 10 minutes of her running up & down the bushes where you've hidden without her finding you - I tend to get cramp! If we throw a ball - she looks at you in as much as 'well you threw it you go fetch it' after one go. Water is her pet hate also which I'm really disappointed about. Mum & Dad have an indoor heated pool with fluvo so she could exercise that way without stressing limbs etc.But oh no! So am going to try agility - see how that goes. Ju

Hi Ju! Mubi reacts in the same way as Buse to the search! However many meatballs you show her ;D A little tip is to try the "rabbit version" - One of you hold Buse and let him see in what direction you run off too. Don't run too far either, make it real simple in the beginning and then increase the depth when hes got the hang of it. When you've run half of the distance let the handler turn his and the dogs back to the person going to hide. Then turn around , point the dog in the correct direction. Have loads of meatballs handy if he finds you!!!! This is how we started off training Chili and it worked wonders! Now she goes deep and methodically - or she used to do atleast As for swiming bb's - I'm starting to believe they are a myth!!! Ewa

Ewa,our Razzy loves swimming and has done since she was a youngster.I used to take her out with 2 labs and they went straight in the water,so so did she!! She has also thought my nephew was in trouble when kidding around in a river(he fell backwards and screamed) and she swam out and pulled in the wooden raft he was on,right up on to the banking!! What a girl! , Sandra.

Hi Ewa & Sandra Thanks for the tip Ewa shall try that & let you know. Sandra , Buse started off walks with Mums dog a retriver which was forever finding water - but still Buse wouldn't follow in when she was younger. I guess they're all different. Ju

My Bruce and Layla don't like water,in fact they drag you round a bloomin' puddle rather than go through it!! ;D

Mubi got as far as enjoying dipping her toes and running a bit in shallow water - but it has taken some serious persuation and plenty of liversnacks to get there! I got pics of her from last summer when she was sitting on the beach like a little old lady, keeping a watchful eye on "the kids" when the rest of us were in the sea! Chili prefers the sea to the lake. She will swim more in the sea and loves to chase waves!! Best off all, in her mind, best of all though is to race through mudpuddles!!! Ohh well, I used to have spaniels for 25 years so I'm kind of used to it Chili's also brought up with a spaniel that would swim anytime and i'm sure it helped! Ewa

Sabrina is no fan of water, she does not like rain, lakes,or the shower at home . In small lakes she goes out so she has water up to her chest, but no more, she is always ina hurry back to land.
