I agree re the appraisal system - as long as the dog is healthy etc then surely that is the main factor to be assessed.Really don't want to go down the KC route where IMHO they have 'trashed' alot of the breeds by bringing in rediculous standards. Like kids no 2 are the same - imagine an appraisal system for kids ! Ju

No offence taken Sandra, our opinion about appraisals is that it is neccesary to make sure that the dogs bred on are over a certain quality in relation to the standard. That quality is placed at 75% by SABT and I believe 80% by EBBASA. If a dog achieves that score and is accepted by the relevant registry, then it is only a matter of health and temperament that separates it from any other dog that can be bred.
The idea is to better what you have, whether that be health, temperament or conformity.
I personally do not believe that any 2 appraisers would get the same score unless it was by chance, so personal opinion probably has a lot to do with the score given, after all, the appraisers are human and the dogs are not put into machines that give precise measurements.

Yes,as was heard at the UK appraisal, the appraiser told somebody that she didn't like that type of dog,it's only her opinion and luckily it didn't affect his score which was still good.We all have favourite types and will always breed for what we like,we might not always get it,but we can try!!LOL. It would be a very boring world otherwise.

cheers for that , your own dog should always be your favourite no matter what, because we love them so much. The appraiser at the end of the day should not be grading on what he our she likes, they should be going by the breed standard. But thats the world we live in today for you.
