Predominantly for our German friends out there. My son who is 14 came back yesterday with details of the above student. He is an only child, quite large, wears designer gangster clothes & they've never had pets. ???His hobbies are spending Mum & Dads money & playing on his PSP all day & night. What will I feed him? I only hope he's not allergic to dogs. Meike some advice please Ju

Ju - Howabout feeding him the same things you feed your family? If he doesn't like it then let him go home again Seriously - My mother is german so I've got bits and pieces from there as well. I always had a hard time wtih the german food I've been fed at private homes. It's rather heavy, rural kind of food with overcooked veggies. You get chain food over there aswell, Mc D. Burger King, Pizza hut etc. I think you'll be ok as long as you don't serve him haggis ;D Then even the most spoilt rotten kid can surprise us when taken out of his natural habitat so give him a chance to "fit in". Hopefully he/or the organizer knows that you have dogs and that he's not allergic. And hopefully designerclothes are washable! Ulla & Meike should be able to help you out here too. When is he arriving? Good luck!! Ewa

Hi Ewa Not till March for 2 weeks ! Think I'll take your advice & feed him what I feed my two - camel droppings & prairie oysters! When he's hungry, like the dog he'll have to eat. Just had a brilliant idea , could start my own version of USA boot-camp. Anyone with kids who are interested please apply Marilyn

I mostly have to agree with Ewa. Feed him what you feed your kids. If his parents spoiled him rotten, that is his problem. If he is willing to go to another country he also has to agree with the livestyle there, including the food. Your food is as good as ours. Don't worry to much about this. My sons wouldn't have problems with this, if he does, sent him home.

You can always fall back on the staple foods of children. Pizza chips and chocolate!
Or stick to traditional english on the basis that it is an exchange visit.
Roast beef, sheperds pie and rubarb crumble - I wouldn't go as far as tripe or eels!!!
But fish and chips certainly need to be experienced.
I was surprised that German MacDonalds were different from British. Bigger and spicier!

Just over a week away now & I have a very funny feeling that Buse will be coming into season at the same time! I think huggies pull-ups will be required for both Buse & exchange student! Ju

Now come on - Buse is too old for huggies!
Buy her some proper pants from M&S and get her some panty liners!
(She told me she wants red ones with black lace!)

Now guy's; Germany might have Repeerbahn and tax paying ladies of the night - but for Pete's sake - DO NOT put red lacy things on Buse when expecting a poor adolescent German exchange student - You might change the direction of his life forever ;D Try some sensible + 60 pair, from M&S (NOT S & M ones either, please!) I'm inclined to believe it's a former exchange student you've turned to stone - never seen a statue like that before! Like it a lot!

Thanks Ewa We love our solid statues of different types.Rest assured it took 4 of us ,lots of planks of wood & a wheel-barrow to get this particular one in place. It won't be going/pinched by anyone, with or without the dog here. Tell me do you live anywhere near the Ice Hotel? Ju

The only thing I haven't tried on that list is badger.....so to me it sounds like an OK menu! I can warmly recommend some beaver chucked in there too. Tastes great if you prepare it properly, but then, they're really hard to shot so unless you want to spend a week in the forest you might better choose something else! Ewa

Wild Boar then ! Ju

Post by mayahund on Feb 19, 2007 15:33:20 GMT
Wild boar is rather nice but goes very easily dry as dust if you cook it wrongly! Boar is quite common up here, the popultation has been growing an awdaul lot last years so now it's almost a problem. A friend of mine hunts them and wants to use my dogs for hunting them down. I'd probably be ok with trying - but since I know how he lets his spaniels work there's no way I'm letting him take the girls for a trip! I also have a good campfire story regarding boars for you Ju Ewa

hi ju still find it funny that my Taz is a full sister to Buse but there's no chance of getting a "chilled" piccy of her! She's like a little coiled spring always ready for action! Trying to get some agility equipment for her and as she's constantly nose to ground thought tracking would be an ideal way of channelling that intelligence. Never done tracking before would be grateful for any pointers on the subject from people. Cris

Hi Cris!
My dog's a totaly chilled out at home (unless we get visitors!) but loves to work and gives 110%
I do agility with Mubi! She loves it! Chili's done search (and rescue) but I'm hoping to start tracking with her soon. A friend, that I do the searchtraining with, is good at tracking so she's going to teach me. Will give reports on progress.

hi ewa will be interested in how you progress haven't started with taz yet. these dogs learn very quickly, i really don't want to teach her bad habits through ignorance and then have to re-educate her! She loves to work very few treats buts lots of praise and hugs which she responds to by nibbling my chin!
