Hi all our male Anasha Oubie was disqualified at this years SABT appraisal in the UK for being too aggressive so being responsible breeders we took him on Saturday to be evaluated by a guy called Mike Mullen who did various tests with him to see how he would react. His verdict was that Oubie is NOT an aggressive dog but is a very dominant dog who requires very strong leadership. He said he is not beyond help and with a lot of time and work would make an excellent guard/protection dog.So initially we have signed up for an 8 week training course to train me as much as Oubie and we will take it from there. This will involve a round trip each week of about 80 miles but we are quite prepared to do so to improve our handling skills.I will keep you all updated on how things go.By the way Mike Mullen has over fifty years experience with training dogs and specialises in dangerous and aggressive dogs.He is a founder member of the Institute of dog behaviourists,a member of the Kennel club,a member of the British Institute of professional dog trainers and a life member of the Anglo American dog training academy. He is also vice President of the Dobermann club so I think he knows what he is talking about.Regards Paul.

Paul, that's super news.I didn't think when I was there he looked aggressive just dominant,as soon as he saw Bruce (Brucie was barking and in full play mode) he took the stance and you could see he was a dominant character but he at no time tried to go for us. Tanner from Razzy's litter is the same,he was dominant when he was a very young puppy and is still the same-he is here for his hols and the girls are the ones putting him in his place. It would be good to know how you get on,as you say,you are being trained as much as the dog, good luck,Sandra.

Hi Paul! Sounds like you got a hold of a good trainer. Wish you all the best with Oubie. Also sounds like you're trying to be an responsible owner, whatever other people try to make you out to be. We've trained Chili with a guy like that since she was 4 months old and I tell you - Chilis not the one that's been doing the hardwork - It's us! We really had to work on being onsistent and to not give mixed signals but we lered a lot and are very grateful for that. Our trainer even calls his place for the "Dog OWNER school" Keep us posted on the progress please, new tricks are always welcome Ewa

Hi Julie good luck with Buse.I bet she will love agility. Her sister Taz is like her namesake and very driven.I dont think I would be able to keep up with her at agility but probably lose a few pounds.Regards Paul.

Hi Ewa I have always tried to be a responsible dog owner despite critisism I have received on other boards.I take my dogs very seriously and am certainly aware of the capabilities of Boerboels.I am always training my dogs so it will be good for me to get professionally trained as well.Regards Paul.

Hi Sandra thanks for that.I love my dogs to bits but unfortunatly that sometimes means I am too soft on them as Anne will tell you.Hopefully this extra training for me will be very helpful.Regards Paul.
