Made the mistake Sunday night in surfing the net. After the usual Ebay stuff i checked out a few doggie sites. What a sobering site i found when looking at the Cane Corso website. Under the dogs for re homing/rescue there was a poor dog that had its ears butchered, starved and had no exercise. If you ever need reminding why prospective owners need vetting and why BB's shouldn't get in the wrong hands this would be a good place to look. Hope that doesn't sound patronising being i don't even own one.I certainly dont envy anyone breeding from that point of view.

hi simon, It is certainly always distressing to see an animal that has been neglected, and worse when suffering is caused deliberatly. As to checking out prospective buyers/owners, you have to be very careful. Some people, however well meaning, feel the breed is (on paper) exactly what they want. The reality of actually owning one can, however, be not as expected. Its a shame people cant "road test", but all you can do is advise people to see as many dogs as possible, point out all the negative aspects of owning a large dog, and then home visit, and question every aspect of their lifestyle. I often feel people who neglect animals should be treated in the same way as they treated the animal, whether thats depriving them of food and water, shelter, contact, etc. and see how they like it! That's my personal view. Cris

hi Simon don't get me started, it's a subject i feel very strongly about. Have you ever noticed how some animals avoid some people, who on the surface seem quite pleasant? I always trust the animals judgement, if they don't like someone i tend to agree cris

Hi Simon & all on this thread I totally agree with all thats been said. If it was Jackie Hillmans Cane Corso site- she is a very down to earth lady who is passionate about dogs. She never allows a pup or rehomes without turning up unannounced at a house. Then if she turns up a 2nd time with dog & they're not in etc when they say someones at home all day etc she turns around & will not leave the dog. As regards to ears - that is illegal in this country(thank god) but I think like the Alanos it is still allowed abroad.I might be wrong on thatthough. Quite agree with you Cris as regards a dogs judgement - but was however letdown by Buse at the weekend - when vicious Buse didn't kick off at you two! ;D

hi simon checked out that site, and yes image is on there. anyone who can do that to an animal, im lost for words to be honest. animal rescue needs support from everybody so that they can carry on the fantastic work that they do, all credit to those people. im afraid if i worked somewhere like that id be in tears the whole time cris

I must agree Chris i wrote this thread and kept deleting text because i just shouldn't find the words. I really dont no how people do this sort of thing[rescue] it certainly takes a special sort. You could however feel the anger or at least that's how i felt when they described the perpetrators as 'Bastards' lets hope the new laws catch a few and put more off.
