Can you feed dogs shellfish? I have just been give 6kgs,yes 6kgs of frozen langoustines,do I need to top and tail them and take out the slimy spinal cord bit before feeding to the dogs? Dogs are fed salmon and trout etc but have never tried them on these. They also have started getting the green lipped muscle extract as this seems to do wonders for their joints,I know Jan is a great believer in this too. Pity nobody is having a barbie this weekend!!

We can have a BBQ! Anne & Shaun are coming here tomorrow and I'm pritty positive atleast Shaun would love some grilled langoustine So fly'em over As for giving to the dogs, really haven't heard of anybody giving whole ones. As for my experience as a cook - the shells are really hard and sharp along the sides so I'm not sure I would chance it giving it to the dogs. Rather ruin my own fingers peeling the .... first. Ewa

I've started stripping those langoustines, this will take me forever!Any quick methods? It's a horrid job If you have a thick chopping knife, one that you can chop through f.ex chickenlegs with, chop the sides of the langoustines off. That makes them a bit easier to peel. If you have 6 kg and are peeling them, one idea on keeping some for the future is to boil them in water wtih some salt. lime/lemon and lots of chopped dill untill you can't "see through" them anymore, let them cool, bag em and put them in the freezer. Great for sallads, sandwiches and wok food. Ewa

No dill in August please! ???Ju So you don't want an invitation to go fishing crayfish night between thursday and Friday (when you arrive) and then boil them when they're still alive with dill and eat them with mayo and bread? ?? Traditionally here in Sweden thats what we do and eat in august. Crayfish parties all over the place were everybody eats crayfish, drink lots of schnapps, wear silly hats, gets very drunk and misbehaving Ewa

Hi Ewa I can vouch that the fresh salmon, potato salad with lemon and fresh dill was great last year at Shaun and Annes and thats from someone who does not like fish.It must be the way you prepare it.Regards Paul.

No problem with going crayfish 'hunting' sounds like fun.We had to catch our own fish in Latvia from the lakes & if you were unlucky enough to be guest of honour you had the whole head in your bowl of soup. Seriously outside of the tourist spots like Riga & Jurmela it is a different world. Someone once asked me to explain what Latvia was like - easy 'It smells of communism & Dill' Honestly Ewa I really do not like Dill Ju

Seriously Ju, I have NO plans on using dill for neither Chile con carne nor the BBQ. I grow some in my garden though and that you'll have to live with But you don't have to eat it Must really have been put into everything since you so obviously can't stand the sight of it. Over here we use it with fish dishes, no more. Up here it used to be a delicacy to eat cod eyes but that is a dying custom. Ewa

Thanks for that Ewa Most 'normal' people have phobias of spiders etc - not me.I'd rather shoot myself in the head than come into contact with dill again.Have been known to run out of a restaurant , doing less than 10 secs per 100 metres when I've smelt dill. So now everyone knows my Achilles Heel! Ju

everybody eats crayfish, drink lots of schnapps, wear silly hats, gets very drunk and misbehaving Sounds excellent ! - except for the crayfish (I'm half-vegetarian - nothing from the water for me ...) . Usually a braai makes one very thirsty, and to quench your thirst with schnapps is very promising ;D Albert.

Since starting nightshift cleaning offices in a fish distribution place I absolutely can't look at a piece of salmon or think about eating shellfish now,one whiff of fish gets me every time.I had to end up leaving the job of peeling 6kgs of langoustines for the dogs to Harry Albert, will be in your neck of the woods on Friday, out to Willems on Sat.

Explanation needed - Half vegetarian - you don't eat fish but you do eat meat or? I'm a semi-vegetarian as well - but I do eat chicken, turkey, fish, and Iove seafood. Been known to eat wild game if I know who shot it too But in order for you being properly fed at the BBQ it would be good to know Or - you can keep to the drinks.....Think I have to do some of my semi-famous schnapps's this year ...or at least the one with chile in it Then we can hold the contest of "whos got the hairiest chest" Ewa

My dad was a veggie, but still ate eggs.Even the smell of any meat or fish made him sick.Poor mum when she cooked it for us had to go around with an airfeshner afterwards so there was no smell before he came in from his work.
