Had an interesting experience yesterday.Ralph our 8 month old male Boerboel was in the car in his crate after training when a neighbour from across the road came over to talk. She noticed Ralph in the crate and walked round to say hello. As she put her hand to the crate Ralph tried to bite it off.She said oh dear not very friendly is he?I said he was very friendly and would she like to be introduced? She said ok.I took Ralph out of the crate, put him in a sit position,Gave the neighbour a small piece of cheese to give to Ralph and told him to say hello. He offered her his paw and in return was given the piece of cheese. He then licked her hand and she was able to stroke him and fuss him with no problems at all. Then another neighbour appeared to say hello. The proceedure was repeated and hands on fuss and attention followed. It was very pleasing to see that Ralph took it all in his stride and was totally happy with the situation. So what you might say.Well Ralph is a Toska puppy.Regards Paul.

Bakkies behaves like Ralph. No one should touch his car/crate. There are only a few persons who can do that. It´s a normal behaviour. It´s HIS territory

Right behaviour. Also that when the dog has been intruduced, there is no problem. You got a good dog with a proper bb-behaviour. My dog Natt never liked to ride in the car.She never liked it and never seem to guard it,..only one time. The car was parked and Natt and my other dog was in the car with me,while my boyfriend went into the store. A women came by,saw the dogs and went right up to them. Natt did not say a word until the woman lay her hand on the window, then all hell broke loose in the car . The women quickly walked away. Good dog,who wants other peoples hand on the car? not me.

Hi Paul! Don't you just get enough off all the people that has to go "visit" with crated/gated dogs?!! Why on earth do they stick their fingers were they don't belong?!! Guess it's one of lifes larger mysteries!! Great to hear Ralf was all cuddly duddley when he came out of the car!
Mubi is behaving the exact same way! If were not in the car - Do NOT touch the car. Mubi will tell everybody off in NO uncertain terms!!!! If one of us is in the car - she won't say anything att all!! Funny that!

Hmmm...let's put your dogs on my couch and I'll give 'em a good talk through and see what we can find out about taught behaviour.......?! By the way....is that why Chili all of a sudden developed a taste for beer during the appraisal? (I vaugely remember a night spent discussing serious buisness over a few (sic!) cans of beer in the camper Ewa

Ewa,
No-one told me about you and Paul in the camper!!!!! But he says the reason our dogs all jump up needing cuddles is because they are like him. He too needs lots of cuddles and kisses.

Well Geri - I don't want to be rude but talk about having preconcieved ideas Hubby was there aswell as 2 bb's. How much room du you think there is in a camper? And by the way, one of the bb's was doing her best to nick the beercans so there wasn't much time for much more than saving the beers Piorities in right order - you know!!! Ewa

We have a puppy pen where we have 13 puppies of different ages at the moment. Each morning I take the puppies out of their respective kennels, and take them over to the puppy pen. I usually move from 2 to 5 puppies at a time. Now one might think that this is a futile exercise moving 5 puppies at a time, however I have a helper.
Mollie has taken on the job of controlling the puppies so that they walk directly over to the puppy pen and do not run onto the road or anywhere else. She volunteered for the job and loves it.
In the evening she helps me take the puppies in again. She litterally herds them so that they do not stray. She tells them off if they start to wander from the right direction.

Thought I'd share this with you all, well 2 things actually. the first is a story about Zeke(only 1 year old)he is a very confident but soft, loving boy and has never done anything aggressive or guardy in his short life until the weekend there. He was out running around with Razzy and he went over the other side of the burn and sat on his rocky outcrop to have a rest when I decided to take clean bedding up for one of the dogs in the kennels.I walked out with the vet bed full length held up to my chin,Zeke took one look and decided this was an intruder and started growling and galloping in earnest to get this person, when I realised how serious he was I immediately dropped the bed and called out to him,he slowed down a bit and I could see the difference in his manner,BUt unbeknown to me Razzy had seen him going to attack and galloped from behind me to return this attack, just as he slowed she tried to slow down also and the two of them went crashing together. This showed me two things; 1/For all Zeke is a big softie he really does have the guarding instinct, which I had doubted. 2/Razzy will put herself on the line for me,which I always thought but could never prove. I think this is partly why I love the breed, the trust and loyalty is there. The 2nd thing is to do with tails,as you all know we dock and to be honest I'd never really given the communication thing too much thought until one night in the house Zeke started to get a bit boisterous with Razzy and started the old paw on the back dominance routine.I actually saw Raz take a definite look at Zeke's tail(or lack of it) to see what it was doing before she reacted,it was wagging like mad so she just started playing with him instead of beating him up!! Makes me think twice about docking now. Sorry this is so long,Sandra.

Hi Guys Thought I'd share this one (Not for the hygenists amongst you though) We have recently had the front bit of the back garden all patioed , if that makes sense.Buse has no access to the main garden except when I let her .This meant that first thing in the morning when she goes for a 'pee' she has to do it on stone & therefore her back legs will get wet. Not so - now every morning I let her out & smile - she has taken to 'peeing' on one of my wooden slatted sunbeds so her feet don't get wet Don't worry for those who want to visit will make sure I have new sunbeds for next year! She is shocking! Honestly the things they do.I have caught the pups all disappearing one after the other into the cage I have up for them for a pee pee. This has not happened before so the cage is coming down and the newspapers there in it's place as i'm sure the scent will have lingered from the area!! Don't worry I'll remember to go to Glasgow airport on Friday at 8.10pm!!Tee Hee! ;D ;D ;D
