My vet recommended zinc as a supplement for my horse to cure persistent itching from unknown cause and it worked like magic. So when talking with a friend about a RR with persistently itchy feet I suggested trying it with him. Early indications are that it is working. He still licks his feet frequently but this may now be a learned behaviour. He has stopped gnawing them.
Apparently if it works using a cheap zinc plated bucket as a feed bucket will provide the zinc rather than expensive supplement.
I guess I could also have tests done but now I seem to have found a cure I'm happy.

Zinc is good on humans for skin, nails and if you have a "sweet thoot" it will settle that.
I will defenitly take your advice and try it on Mubi. Have you got an idea on how much she gives the RR and what strength the zink is? Ewa

Now no laughing but this is what I give Archie: ;D
zinc Vitamin c omega 3 aloe vera these can all be bought from simply supplements and they have buy one get one frees so it doesn't work out so expensive. I give him these as I don't feed him any dog food, tinned or otherwise. Hubbie always says he eats better than us! I also give him plaque off, which keeps his teeth clean. The vet says his teeth couldn't be any better.

Hi Ewa,
I think she may have just used zinc and castor oil cream on his feet but I will ask her and get back to you. Following your comments I may try some zinc on myself as well!

Caroline,
I am sure that Archie eats best in your house - that's why he wanted to be your puppy in the first place!

I use Omega oil blend. It's balanced 3,6 and 9 omegas from hemp oil and flax oil. My dogs coats are great. I buy Naff products which are for horses but they work out great value. Hemp oil has been proven to help with bone formation and renewel. I have seen the effects of it on arthritic peoples hands. Although it didn't alter the deformation of the knuckles it removed all of the pain.I have used in on an arthritic dog and seen great results in mobility. Omega oils have been tested on children and it's been found to calm ADHD sufferers improve concentration and general across the board academic skills. Maybe my dogs with end up in Mensa!!!! Zinc is wonderful too. It works wonders on most skin conditions. Again Naff to this and it works out cheaper.

Dear Marty I get all my vitamins and supplements from www.simplysupplements.co.uk. They are for people, so nothing nasty in there. I have looked all over the net for the best prices and found these to be the most economical, also they do buy one get one free which really brings the cost to a minimum. The zinc is in tablet form so you can either just drop it into your BB's food, or get a piece of cheese squash it around in your hand until it becomes soft. Then put the tablet in and enclose the cheese around it. I do this when I worm Archie also because dogs swallow it whole so it is quick and very easy. Apologies if you already have a failsafe way of giving tablets to your BB but I thougt it might help people who have a bit of a struggle with it. Caroline
