After a long night we are the proud grandparents of 10 puppies from our Razzy. She is doing really well and pups are great so far.We have 3 Irish, all booked,(as opposed to pies!!) and a mix of other colours. Will let you know how things progress and just keep our fingers crossed that they make it through the crucial first few days.Just exactly the same as last year she went 5 days early and had first pup at 6.45pm!!Very strange! Thanks everybody.Vet came today and did tails and dewclaws and checked them and Razzy all over, his assistant was on hols so it was down to me to hold the pups.THAT is stressful ,I still think it's worth it though,I love to see a docked tail, even although I do have 2 with tails very firmly attached!LOL
One thing I did see though was Razzy at her most protective, she normally loves everybody but it was as if she remembered him from last year and what he was going to do,worst thing is she has went in the huff with ME!!I even offered her a space on the sofa I have next to her puppy pen and she just sat and ignored me!! I'll just bribe her with tripe sticks!!LOL Sandra.

Ohhhh...I miss the smell of puppies..... Lovely pups Sandra! I have 1 bb with tail and 1 without and I must sy, however painful they can be, I prefer them with tails! But we do get some fantastic laughs from Mubis little stump thats always doing the jitterbug! Ewa

Thanks Claudia, now I have the camera always on hand, they are just soooo photogenic. I laughed when I sent people a disc of doggy photos,I hadn't realised how many were on it,I think they got a bit bored by the 1000 one, turned out there was 1843 on the disc, Sandra.

I much prefer them docked, but I can see the advantages of a tail.Hubby summed up the advantage as 'if i was coming into the farm,I'd much rather see a dog wagging a great big tail than not being able to see it's reaction to me with a stump!!'. We will continue to dock until we are not allowed, although the Irish had lovely white tips on their tails we still chopped them. I know this is really sick, know what we did with the tails,we posted them to my 14 yr old nephew, who is a bit of a wimp,I phoned him and told him that I'd sent him a belated birthday present and to be on the lookout for it ,he will have a fit, wish I could see his face.LOL Sorry if that offended anybody,Sandra.

Sandra, You're a sick, sick person And you wonder why nobody come to see you for X-mas?!!!! Docking or no docking, I guess it's a matter of taste. When the law against docking was passed in Sweden some 15 years ago or so I had 3 spaniels without tails and got a pup with....Now that tail was very close to get stuck in doors, cardoors and so on for a long period. What I have seen/lernt though is just what your hubby noticed, it's so much easier to read a dog with tail. With Mubis stump I find it more difficult. But still the discussion about ducking or not periodically still runs high here. And I do believe some breeds benefits from docking since the quality of their tails are just not good for the purpose of the dog/breed. Ewa

Sandra Sounds like the sort of thing I'd do! I did laugh when I read it. At the moment my 14 yr old boy is 'mincing' about the place as Buse is in season & he has offered to spend his paper round money on huggie pull ups for her ! What ever happened to boys being boys & girls being girls? Ju

Hi Ewa & Sandra On the subject of docking - I don't know as far as a BB is concerned. Obviously I only have Buse- tail intact & I couldn't imagine her without. Yet saying that my Rottie I had was docked & I couldn't imagine her with a tail. Regards Ju

Julie,my nephew wasn't amused,he phoned me outraged,'how could i do that,You are disgusting' was the general gist of the call.Just the reaction we thought it might achieve. He asked me what was he supposed to do with them and I told him to make his mum a pair of earrings for her xmas!!!! ;D ;D

I would like to keep 3,will I be allowed to keep 3??? Hmmmmm..........that could take a bit of persuading. I' defo keeping a female from Razzy and I adore the Irish male,as much as I have had problems with colour in the past!!LOL We'll keep what we personally think is our fave, including conformation, colour, and most importantly the temperament to suit what we have here already, something with a bit of attitude methinks!!LOL

Hi Sandra,
You sound just like Paul at the rate he is going we will have twenty soon. We orignally set a limit of ten dogs - but he then decided that my two small dogs only counted as half each! We definately need more space! Now that you have lots of room, the temptation must be enormous!
But there will always be the next litter .... to keep some from.
Good luck choosing.

Paul,I can't believe the size that Razzy's pups have grown to in a week(just over),the vet was in yesterday for a wee look see when he was in doing tails again and he was flabbergasted.I'm wondering if last years was as big or do you just forget? I'm going to weigh them(normally wait until 2 weeks) and see how much they have gained,I know they normally double but they just seem like monsters!!.I will send pics when I can,Sandra.

Paul,Boris(nickname for red Irish) has increased in 10 days from 660gms to 1770gms,rest are slightly smaller but not by much.I'm thinking it is bigger than last years litter. So much for my plans of short and stocky,LOL

Hi Sandra,
We nicknamed one of Happy's pups Boris and he grew into Oubaas! The huge one at the appraisal by the time he was eight weeks I struggled to lift him up!The other pups are more normal size now, but Stan who Shaun took back to Denmark last year was a normal size pup and just grew huge afterwards. Honey was a small puppy as well - so you might still get short and stocky? When do we get more pictures?

Sorry, this seems to be the term for pies with a main body of solid colouring, white chest, white legs, markings should be as balanced as possible. I checked it out on various searches and it applies to lots of different breeds. I found a good link about it and genetic colouring, will pass it on.Sandra.
