Hello everyone! I am a mother who lives in an isolated rural area in the northern USA. I have 3 children and no longer have a husband. I have been reading about the BB dog and would like someone to compare it to the following two dogs: Cane Corso American Mastiff Can anyone with children tell me how stable the BB is with them? How much do you trust your BB with your own children and other children? How well does the BB do driving in the car? Does he need a sweater in cold weather? How is a good example of a BB at potty training and learning? Will a BB test my dominance or that of my children at a certain age? I have had dogs for 20 years. If I were to get a BB pup, how should I socialize him ? Should I introduce him to the farmers that come up my driveway to work the cattle in the adjacent property? How does a socialized BB react to a stranger on my property? Does he warn loudly, and look to my reaction? I want an intimidating dog, but not one that would be instantly vicious. A guarding dog that would protect my children in a crisis, but a very steady and loving animal with good judgement. Thank you very much!

Hi I haven't owned one that long, but they are lovely dogs. I have a seven year old and a very "active" pup and my Bruce is a saint. They are very protective and IMO you have to be a very consistant pack leader. They are very loving and calm dogs generally. Mine has no problem with people coming to my house but I won't have it any other way. They need lots of exercise and a firm hand. I wouldn't be without one know, and I don't know how I lived without one before. mine doesn't like the cold much, but no need for sweater type coat. He travels perfectly. You must social them with evryone and evry thing, but this goes for all dogs. Mine needs a dominant hand but this my not be the same for all BB. I believe toilet training is no different from any other dog. THey have a very loud bark and are territorial, but proper training is a must as is understanding of how a dogs mind works. My advice is not to incourage the guarding instinct. That way your BB will grow up balanced, social and safe but still protect your family when the need arises. IMO they are a far better choice than the other breeds you have mentioned. BBs like all dogs grow up to be the dog you make them.

Hello Just my 2 pennies worth. Have never owned a Cane Corso or American Mastiff - so cannot compare, sorry. As regards children I have always taken the view that dogs are animals no matter how stable they are, so will never allow in the same room if an adult is not present.(No matter how big or small the breed) They dont need a sweater - but 'most' BBs do not like rain. No car sickness with my two at all. Potty training - took 2 days , after getting them at 8 weeks of age. In my limited experience a BB will warn loudly & try to be as intimidating in stance as possible - but if you are there will look to you for guidance, if you are in charge. If you are not there & they are as seen as an intruder - who knows? Regards Ju
