Buse does exactly the same - but trust me never out for a 10 mile walk at her age! Ju

Correct me if I'm wrong but with that coloring he ought to be a Kejser puppy.
Looking great. Never seen a bb lay like that though! In old times people used to say that a dog that would lay like that had great hips - it has later been proven untrue. Chili will stretch, standing up on her front legs and both back legs straigt out behind her and sort of kneel. She started doing this after the TPLO's.

Ewa - Yes they both are(Toska/Kejser) - but when at their most relaxed that is the way they lie - particularly infront of the fire! Ju

Hi Ewa,
I agree about the hips! Lying like this shows the movement in the hips is not necessarily an indicator of good hips. The only way is to x-ray so that you can see the bone structure and I have to agree with Shaun and Anne the Penn Hip system is much more reliable than BVA - in testing for likely development of HD.

Hi Geri I agree Penn hip is probably more reliable - but would not subject Buse to that length of journey & anesthetic etc - would rather do BVA locally if I did want to breed from her. Ju

Ju that is exactly how I feel, until there is a vet up here not too far away I will always BVA hips and elbows. In fact we had Della's shoulders done too as well as knees, not that we that there was anything wrong, just that we wanted to be thorough. The dogs welfare will always come first and I hate travelling all that distance with them cooped up,it's the same problem with the appraisals. We travelled 9 hrs approx with Razzy and then back again!.

Hi Ju,
The impressive thing about the vet at Chester was the anesthetic he used. When we took Oubie and Honey they were under for less than twenty minutes. He used one of the reversable drugs and brought them back out to us within half an hour.
I agree with you about the anesthetic risk - I will only put a dog under when it is really necessary. Pickle would have been speyed but after her accident and nearly losing her I haven't been willing to put her under again.

Hi Sandra,
We are fortunate that it is relatively close for us to get there. I certainly wouldn't want to travel with dogs the distance you have to. I wasn't surprised when you went mad at the appraisal last year - travelling all that way and then being told you couldn't get them appraised.
It would stretch the patience of a saint!

In the old days (when a certain lady called Julie was born ) all sorts of strange ideas and remedys were used often to the detriment of the afflicted animal. Thank goodness we live in an age when technology allows us to ascertain whether a healthy looking dog is just that. Taz will obviously be hip tested - i know Paul prefers Penne as it gives better clarity - before she is bred. cris
