Hi Ju/Ewa, It is a special head-collar for dogs. It just slips over the head and one strap does up behind the ears - just like a collar. The benefit to the dog is her neck doesn't get pulled and the benefit to me is I can handle any pulling in the same way as with a horse. Any forward motion can be stopped by pointing the dog in the other direction. Tem doesn't need it unless another dog says something rude - when she can then really go mad ;D Honey is stronger than most males and can drag me on her half choke. Fortunately with her it is usually towards someone to say hello! Many vets are now reccomending the headcollars because by controlling the dogs nose they automatically make the dog more submissive to the handler. Not sure why they make them in toy poddle size though Geri PS They come in webbing (as modelled by Tem or imitation leather or real leather!)

personally prefer something called a canny collar which has a nose strap, and a buckle collar combined. gives great power steering even for taz who pulls like a horse. lost confidence in those head collars when one dog i was walking slipped the thing and left me standing with lead and collar while the dog ran in circles thinking it was a great game! cris

Cris,
I guess we all like different pieces of equipment for different reasons. When I tried a canny collar the dog slid the nose strap off. Since I am used to head collars with horses I find using them with dogs quite natural and the dogs like them to.
I also like the fact that they make them in so many different materials and sizes. Maybe the one you tried was the wrong size.
At the dog training we took Ralph to, they used headcollars on all medium to large dogs which were pulling.
Needless to say that both the canny collar and headcollar work by controlling the dogs nose.

Hi Geri,I have used this kind of collar before and actually prefer the gentle leader to this.Less straps round about the eyes etc.

Hi Sandra,
I agree the straps around the eyes can be a problem - that's why I like the dog-matic rather than a halti. The key is to have one the right size and correctly fitted but I guess that is true of all of them. Anyway they are all better than a choke chain or prong collar - which look so babaric.
Cheers, Geri
