I have recently heard that the SABT are intending to hold a Boerboel Auction in conjunction with the National Show in South Africa.
Our breed is constantly assailed with the "wrong types" trying to get their hands on the dogs and this is a perfect opportunity for them to do so without any questions being asked. Where does welfare fit in with this? What sort of breeders would put their dogs up for auction to the highest bidder?
I am completely outraged at this unprofessional and damaging display of total disregard for the breed and am gathering opinion worldwide to put to the SABT Board in an attempt to put a stop to it.
If you feel able to help, please post your response here.

Actually we bought some Boerboels at one of these auctions many years ago. The buyers are only there by invitation and are mostly breeders., and the Boerboels for sale are of the highest quality. The prices attained are much more than usually asked for in RSA and the quality is also higher, both the dogs and the people buying them.

Hi Jenny I think personally that people go to any auction with a view to getting a bargain.Never been to an auction selling animals so could not comment on the quality etc.Are they the same as car auctions here in the UK?These are usually sold as seen with no guarantees and no comebacks.Regards Paul.

That is not quite true in this case Paul. The minimum price allowable at these auctions is way over the accepted general price for Boerboels. All of the dogs we bought there were more expensive than the rest of the dogs we were offered during our stay.

Hi Shaun if the prices were higher than usual does this mean that the overall quality of the dogs being offered was better? Regards Paul.

Paul, it is an honour for these breeders to sell their dogs at these auctions and the whole South African Boerboel communitycan see the best the individual kennels can offer. Nobody would sell rubbish as it would give the kennel a bad name. The dogs we bought at this auction were some of the best we saw come out of South Africa. Shaun
