He is a very handsome boy. At what age will you get him appraised? Diego is now 14 months old, but we feel we will get him appraised next year so he has got time to grow into himself. Do you personally think it is better to wait till he is older or not? This is my boy now His weight is now 55kg. We are making sure that he doesn't grow too quickly. We are making sure he stays on the slimmer side for now. We want to do the hip score tests, xrays etc now, but I am not sure how to go about it nor do I know what exactly to do and when is the best time to do it. Can anyone help me with this please? How close to the day that he gets appraised does the date of the papers need to be? (the hip tests) Can I do it a year before he is appraised or do I have to do it the year that he gets appraised? And last but not least how many times in his life do I have to get his hips tested? I would love for people to comment on any of my questions or really anything I have written. A little more about Diego now. He has a brilliant temperament loves people way to much, he trusts everyone. We have Diego not to guard at all. He takes a while to get use to other dogs but the good thing is he is not aggressive towards any dog. We left him with a trainer, Claire, to look after him when we went to SABT appraisal. She has 3 dogs all sizes and personality's but all are very good with other dogs. Before we handed him off to her she wanted to see how he is around her dogs. So we took him to her a week before hand. He peed everywhere outside, male dog and all! Claire the trainer said even thou we have not socialized him he has got good dog language. One of her dogs she uses for aggressive dogs and he was great with Diego. He was persistent with going near Diego then backed off and continued that process to ease him into the group. We had Diego off his lead and her dogs were off lead and all of them did there own thing. I was nervous he might kick off because it was the first time we had him off lead with other dogs, but it went really well. After we come to collect him back Claire said he was really good and plays well with her dogs. He wasn't the perfect dog thou he did jump over her gate inside the house to go play with her dogs! He slept in his crate with the door open and her dog she use for aggressive dogs went in the morning into Diego's crate but he was fine with him doing it. And he pulled like crazy when Claire took him out for walks. And he jumps when he gets too exited. We are working on the pulling of the lead and things are really going well. Last night was the best he ever was on the lead so we will stay on working hard on it. We don't even give him an inch to do what he wants but what we want now. The jumping is still a little problem but we are working on it. We started to calmly play with him so that he doesn't get too exited. And it seems to work and he is now calmer and plays really good without jumping. Only when we get too exited because he is so good then he jumps but we also have to learn not to make mistakes but he learns very quick. Kind Regards: Leonette

Hi Leonette! Diegos looking nice!
Totte will be one year next month and there is an appraisal in Denmark in august but we won't take him. Decided to wait until at least next year.
We are also waiting with his Penn-hip testing, I know it can be done as early as 6 months but i prefer to wait until his 2 years and more ready in size. Well do the elbows at the same time. We're in absolut NO hurry to breed him, heck, we don't even know IF he's breed worthy yet (in our eyes!) only time can tell. One major issue with us is his how his temper turns out. So far very good but once again, now we start training!
Sounds like Diego was beahving really well at Claires house! Great !!
As for leadpulling, off-leash etc, it's all hard work that counts and the sooner you do it the easier it is to make it work. In my book all the time you spend working/training/handling/socializing your pup up until about the age of 2 years very well invested time for having a long life spent in harmony after the pup has matured into fully grown.
