Toska has had phantom pregnancies every time she has been in season even after having two litters of pups.Several females she has produced have also had phantom pregnancies after they have been in season. We took Beauty one of her brindle puppies we kept to the vets last week as she is having a phantom pregnancy after being in season.I was quite surprised when we popped her on the scales and she weighed in at 57.64kg as she is only 11 months old. What I was very pleased with was her reaction to being examined by the vet .I put a muzzle on her before the examination began as she has not been examined by a stranger since she was 10 weeks old (second vaccination). Her only reaction was to sit down as the vet started his examination. There was no growling, snapping or pulling away even when he put his hand underneath her and lifted her back on her feet to complete his examination. Why should she be any different? You must remember according to some people We only breed aggressive dogs.Must have done something wrong with this one. Seriously though has any one else had females who have phantom pregnancies and do they still have them? Regards Paul.

Paul,Razzy had a phantom the first time but not since,I can only imagine it to be a nightmare.
That's good about Beauty at the vets, that'll shut them up for a wee while!! We start ours at ringcraft as early as possible and part of the routine is to let strangers go over them and check the teeth, neck, briskey, back end etc, even the boys ging gangs!!This gets them well used to being handled.Have to admit though that it is very hard to do obedience and ringcraft at the same time with a pup. We have just had a couple of very trying days as Bronson has been very ill,he is through it now and it seemed to be just an infection but my don't they lose weight quickly!

Hi Paul Beauty sounds great - must take Buse to vets this week for weighing again, shall let you know where shes at. We're lucky with Buse in that even though she has been bred from 'dangerous' stock we don't even have to muzzle when we go to the vets. ;D Ju PS Sandra glad Clive didn't know you inspect ging gangs!

Hi Guys Can anyone please help? Buse is still in phanthom - think shes doing the full gestation period! Took her to the vets Friday for weigh in (51.2kg) & check over etc.She is not producing milk so cannot administer Galistop etc. She hasn't eaten in days, is thoroughly miserable & depressed & has now taken to 'full on howling' at the boom of the stairs when we go to bed. Was so bad last night I brought a duvet downstairs & slept with her so at least other members o the family could get some sleep as well as the neighbours

I spoke to a vet about this, seems they can even go into phantom labour, quite apt for you Ju,the phantom granny! Seriously though, they can honestly think they are having pups even although there is no chance of anything being there.I hope she settles soon.Ju,you need to stop mollycoddling and start tough love, your kids told me you were great at that! ;D Thanks to everybody concerned about our lot.We also seem to have a virus rife in the next town,we have checked for Parvo and tested negative,so it seems to be a flu like thing with the pups we have that are unwell, vet says it is raging among the pups and the veterans.Seems to be within 7 days they are back to complete normality(and weight!!!) but for 4 of those all you do is worry and wait.Layla is an awful lot better, still very, very quiet and not eating much at all but she is here and not bleeding! She is sleeping a lot which seems to be helping her so we just let her be in front of the fire. Goodness, who would be a breeder!!!

Hi Sandra Had sleep last night so hopefully email will make more sense. Saturday nights storm was a real howler so I think that really affected the situation with Buse as well as having to put up with all my animated Xmas figurines etc & a 7ft tree all decked out with twinkling lights etc. Look forward to the phanthom birth then - lets hope we can get it over & done with before Xmas ! Pleased Layla is doing ok - she will be fairly quiet for a while - but watch out for when she regains her appetite - she'll eat you out of house & home Love to all the puppies JU

Hi Sandra hope your pups are all OK been busy for a while what with going to Denmark and then straight back home to pack for Ireland although the latter was just works Christmas bash.Had to have a bit of the black stuff. The beast from hell actually managed to slightly curl her lip when the vet tried to stuff her with dog treats.Wow what an aggressive dog.I had better watch that one.Dont think Toska understands Danish.Regards Paul.
