Hi all, On Thursday Diego developed a cough, which over the course of Friday turned into full blown coughing/wheezing/hacking. He is bringing up a bunch of white slime every now and again. I was up all Friday night with him as he really has no clue what’s going on. Took him to the vets this morning as I suspected he might have caught kennel cough or a similar "common" ailment. However the vet doesn’t seem to think it’s the case as Diego failed the classic tests for KC. He is off his food, however is leaving rather more piles for me to collect than normal, if you know what I mean. He is also a bit quieter than normal. Vet gave him a combined Steroid/Antibiotic to try to calm his coughing and maybe start fighting it if it is a bug and I am due back on Monday. Has anybody else experienced symptoms like this with their bb or other dogs they have known? I am just worried about my boy as he looks death warmed up at the moment having not really slept last night. Any advice greatly received. Kind Regards Chris and Diego.

Hi! I haven't had any problems like yours with my dogs but I've had problems with coughing myself and learned that better than most any cough medicine is the herbs thyme and sage. For myself I boil water and put it either dried/or fresh in a the strainer, leave it to "soak" for 5 minutes and then drink.
Maybe you could give him the herbs with some pate or minced meat or something? You don't really need all that much. Given a couple of times a day. Ewa

My Cross Bull Masiff Bitch developed a severe cough which made her gag, she had a temperature of 104 and was lethargic and generally unwell. I suspected Lungworm which has become very common in this area because of the wet summer and the number of urban foxes. It turned out after multiple doses of antibiotics that she had inhaled grass and this had developed into a fungal infection in her lung. They did a saline lung wash to clear the foreign body and to determine what the bug was exactly and she is now on the mend.
Good luck
