Just spoken to the owner of the dog in question. He is entire, been brought up as a house dog with children.I forgot to ask how old the children are.He is fine with the husband but the wife finds it difficult to hold him on a lead.He says he is not very well socialised with other dogs and has shown signs of dog aggression if challenged by another dog.His owner has said the dog has snapped at people on several occasions and has broken the skin on a couple of encounters .I now know who the breeder is and will be contacting him directly to see if he can offer the owner a solution. Will keep you posted.Regards Paul.

Hi Shaun got a reply from the breeder today. He says he was aware of the dogs problems as the dog owner had contacted him in the past.He says he told the owner what he needed to do and how to address the problems and that he also told the dogs owner he would willingly take the dog back if for any reason things did not work out.Unfortunatly the owner did not contact the breeder again. The breeder thanked me for bringing it to his attention and he has left a message for the owner to contact him again as he will willingly take the dog back.I have asked the owner and the breeder to keep me informed of any progress. All of this sounds so familiar.Customer contacts breeder, breeder offers advice, customer ignores advice, problem escalates, customer contacts someone else.I will keep you all posted.Regards Paul.

I take my hat off to you Paul, taking into consideration what this particular breeder has written about "aggresive Bulie" dogs, and at a time when he obviously knew of this problem with his own dog, you have refrained from even mentioning who it is. Sometimes I wish I had as much selfrestraint as you are showing, but then I wouldn´t be as lovable as I am . Shaun

We have a saying over here; "You shouldn't throw rocks when you're sitting in an glasshouse" - maybe something for the breeder in question to think about! Well done Paul to do what you can and not washing somebody else's laundry publicly. Ewa

Shaun,I'm similar to Paul, very quiet and unassuming,......NOT!!!! I'll add that before anybody else does!!LOL,Sandra.
I hope the dog gets a good home, either back with the breeder or with new owners.
I hope everybody has had a great Xmas.I'm afraid for us it's a case of 'roll on 2007'.On reflection 2006 has been a mixed bag for us,especially the latter months but here's hoping it will all work out well over the next month or so.
I'd like to thank everybody for all their support for various things that have happened for us at Sandaharr this year, you all know who you are and I'm very grateful for all advice and shoulders given freely, either on the phone and e-mail,in person or on the board, many, many thanks. Sandra.

Hi Sandra,
I hope the dog gets a good home but sadly when people have failed to bring a puppy up properly it takes a lot of work to bring the dog round and there are few people in th UK with the expertise and desire to sort out a three year old male. We have tried hard to select suitable owners for our puppies but inevitably some people don't do what they say.
Sadly some people always recomend a quick trip to the vet. We found out after we had had Oubie for some months that his original vet had said he should be put to sleep. We are pleased that a professional dog trainer ex-police etc... confirmed that he is not vicious he just has a taught behaviour on a lead that is difficult to train him out off. Off lead he is very friendly as Shaun and Anne found out when they met him. Meanwhile he is living a happy life with us and wouldn't dream of biting us but we don't take any risks with him.
Lets hope someone will take on this dog.

Hi Shaun,
Paul and I talked about this dog and we all know that any litter from any bitch will produce a variety of temperament and dominance level puppies. Much has been said by many people about Toska and general mud has been slung about "Bulie" dogs. We wish people would accept that Boerboels are dogs - just big ones with high protective drive because that is what they have been bred for. Any dog can be "taught" to be aggressive. My pickle - (Beagle x terrier for those who haven't met her) was vicious when I got her. She had been semi-starved and on sight of food became a biting machine to protect the food and drive everyone else away from it. It took me some time and fortunately her bites weren't that bad but bite me she did. Those who have met her now know she has the softest temperament but she also bit me when she was run over and I picked her up. In the same circumstance with a Boerboel I would have needed stitches and people would have been screaming "put her to sleep".
I believe every dog deserves a chance and only after establishing that the dog is not in pain and that it has had a good chance of training should we resort to death. If only we had the space and resources of time and money to look after all of these dogs.
Sadly we don't and with such big dogs they do pose a serious threat to people, so sometimes death is the only answer but as breeders we want other UK breeders to accept that there will be some of their dogs in this situation - it is only a matter of time and if a breeder is not prepared to sort out these situations by taking the dog back and giving it a chance - they should not be breeding. In this case as soon as Paul contacted the breeder he said he would take the dog. Let's hope he can re-train it and we will see some happy pictures of him with a new owner in the future.
