I am wondering if anybodyelses dog has the same habit as Chili? Sometimes she will "chew" on her own leg, just above the knee. She probably does it atleast once a day. She will sometimes also sleep with one leg "tossed" over her head/neck. The reason for me wondering is to find out if this is normal behavior of if it's something related to the fact that she had TPLO's done. And if it's not normal (but what is with that dog ) then maybe her hen mum should get in contact with the vet. Ewa

Does it appear to be itching? What happens if you scratch the spot for her? Does she make it sore?
You could try putting anti-bite lotion to see whether it is just a habit she has got in to.

Well I wouldn't say it appears to be itching. She just sort of chews slightly on it for a while and then she's done! Ther'e no marks whatsoever on her leg.
Anti-bite lotion??? - In this house we use chilesauce ;D
Ewa (whos now going to plant this years chile seeds, trallallallalla - can't wait to have my first fruits, summer come quickly!

The fact that she doesn't mark it makes me think it is an itch. Try rubbing it for her. After all we are here only to serve our dogs.

I don't really understand what you mean with " the fact that she doesn't mark it". Excuse a linguistically failing swede!!! But I will try rubbing it and see what happens! I'm my dogs most willing servant Ewa

Hi Ewa Beauty sometimes sems to bite her back leg but when it is rubbed and scratched for her she stops.Usually happens when she has just been running about in the garden.Do you have stinging nettles in Sweden as it could be something stinging her when out walking.Regards Paul.

I´ll tell you what they do have in Sweden, they have the highest tax pressure in the world, I always thought that Denmark took that place, I was wrong, we come a measly second place. I guess I will have to get the government to tax us some more so that we at least have something to boast about again.

Shaun the only link I can see with your post is the sting! Taxes do sting a lot.

Ewa,
"The fact that she doesn't mark it" means she doesn't make it sore or bleeding. This seems to me to mean that it is just a bit of an irritation ie maybe an itch or sting. I took pickle out for a walk and she inadvertantly walked on some very young short stinging nettles and stung all her pads. She rushed upstairs to the carpeted rooms and frantically rubbed her paws on the carpet. I soothed them with germoline - it has a local anesthetic in the cream. Can you buy that in sweden?

Hi Ewa,
our Lucy does exactly the same - it appears not to be itching and no traces or scars are there. She hardly chews, it´s mainly holding her upperleg in her mouth and she drools over it. It seems like she only does it when I´m close to her and Abel, and ignoring her. We´re not doing anything about it, she´s obviously allright.
Albert.

Funny, Bakkies only licks his leg, the upper part near the shoulder. I saw Kangaroos do the same when it is very hot. He does it more in the summer than in the winter. This dog concerns me - does he think he is a kangaroo??

Hi Meike,
You will have to worry when you see him leaping down the road on two legs singing "tie me kangaroo down sport" or playing a digereedoo!

I start this post off with describing how she chews her leg and that she will sleep with one leg over her head. Well I managed to get a pic of her sleeping fashion last night. I will find her in this position every now and then. Thanx Shaun!
