hi all has anyone noticed their dog doing what i call hedge creeping? Toska will "stalk" underneath a hedge, trembling, very slowly lifting each foot as she moves forward. was told it was because she enjoyed the feeling of the branches brushing her back but i'm not convinced. none of the other dogs do this, so anyone else seen it? cris

Cris The only time Buse does this is if I am road walking her in a busy neighbourhood with her halti on in an attempt to get it off. Otherwise when out in open fields she literally just 'tanks' through the bushes.Buse doesn't believe in going around, over or under an obstacle - just through it! Ju

hi ju that's not very helpful! sounds like 1 of the other dogs! Toska has done this since she was small, i wondered if it was checking territory to make sure all was safe, no predators lurking? cris

We have seen similar behaviour in several of our dogs from different lines, Mollie is one of them. They can stay almost in the same spot for several minutes sometimes rocking backwards and forwards, sometimes walking forwards, it is as if they completely switch off entering a kind of trance. The plant can be a hedge, it can also be a plant in the front room. The only similarity in the plants is that they all have something that scratches the dog lightly, it could be a twig, it could also be a pointed leaf.
No idea why they do it, but they seem to like it.

Hi Cris, Tosca's grandmother Elbo Tosca was one of our first dogs. She used to do that a lot and it looked like she was in heaven when she did it. Will try to find a photo later Anne

Hi Guy's ! Both Chili and my first bb Maya do/did this. I always thought it reassembled a lion stalking an animal. Both dogs will do it in bushes but also out in the open. Chili often does it when she wants Mubi to play, like she's "stalking" up on Mubi. Here's a pic of chili doing it in the snow and openly, she will go lower too. And here's one of her doing it in the Rhododendron bush! She can stay in there, like that for quite some time!

Come to think about it - my spaniels would raise their right leg too when "pointing" out game. Ewa

Ewa We definately need to have input on this one - perhaps dogs are like people in that they are right handed but less likely to be left handed.Would be intereting to see if anyone has the latter. Ju

hi shaun, most of the dogs stand and point like this, makes you wonder how many breeds went in the melting pot to produce the boerboel. cris
