Hi, we are planning to go to sweden for 1 or 2 weeks next year in June. Does anyone know a nice house with no neighbors? My boyfriend wants to go fishing (I toled him he can do that as long as he shoots the fish and I do not have to cook them), so a lake near the house would be great. We do not want to drive too long, so southern Sweden would be fine with us. Ewa, do you know something for eremites and Boerboel owners?

Plenty of cabins to rent in Sweden! How far up in Sweden do you want to go? You can find good fishing water, both lake and sea all over the place!

Hi Ewa, never been to Sweden, so I have really no clue We´ll go by car, we do not want to drive too long, so the southern part would be great. It´s really important that there are no other tourists near, a solitary house would be great. Do you know some areas where we can look for houses?

Sorry Meike - been busy but found some info for you thats available in German. This link covers my part of Sweden (Skåne) www.skane.com/cmarter/cmarter.asp?doc=1368 This link covers the part of Sweden just above me. It has lots of fishing, secluded places and is only about 3-5 hours drive from Trelleborg, depending on were you're going. www.visit-smaland.com/litiuminformation/site/page.asp?Page=3I've also asked a Swedish friend, that goes out a bit and rents a house, were to go and are awaiting answer from her. If you need more info give me a holler. Ewa

I sure hope you're not planning to shot a reindeer while your up here. They're protected by law in summer and you can only hunt them at special times in the year. So please leave shotguns at home and bring only fishing rods Unless you want to see a swedish jail from the inside! Go for the wild boar instead - No hunting season on them. But yeah - I do have recipes and yes they will involve red wine and bay leaves! I also got a mean recipe for beaver ( Not that beaver JU/Sandra) also involving red wine and some other witch powers!!! Tastes divine though (the animal JU/Sandra) Ewa

Somehow many threads in this board sooner or later turn out to be about food and booze - even when it´s about holiday in Sweden, of all places ... Brilliant idea, by the way, Meike - last august we travelled quiet a bit through Scandinavia (much to fast through Sweden into Finland and than further to the Barentzsea and back along the Norwegian coast), I found southern Sweden had a very nice atmosphere, a place to return to. Somewhere in this forum I read about a Chilli con Carne cooking event - will you be ´in retraite´ to practise cooking Chilli con Elch ? Cheers now, Albert.

Hi Albert,
I guess food and booze come next to Boerboels for most people on this board.
At least it doesn't degenerate to talk about sex or at least hasn't so far ---- unless there's a bit I haven't read!!!!!

When it comes to elk Abel - it would be sacrilege to waste it on chili con carne! But I do have a recipe were you put deep frozen elk in the oven for at lest 12 hours and then into a marinade of spices and - red wine! Brought that with me to Scotland once and they loved it Ewa

Sounds mouth watering I LOVE any meat dish which has been marinaded in wine or port. Can you make some for the appraisal? Does it have to be made with elk? Would a wee scottish beastie do???

Ewa,
Now you are talking ..... beef is my favourite particularly if we can get Paul to make the Yorkshire. He is a mean cook when you can get him in the kitchen and he cooks the beef so that it is really well done. Shaun however likes his to have only just stopped mooing.
Perhaps we could have beef at the meal Shaun is talking about.
My mouth is watering already...

Dont let Shaun near the beef.I swear the last lot he cooked and put on my plate was still twitching. It was certainly an experience. All we needed was a full moon to complete the scene.Strangely enough it tasted quite pleasant once you ignored the blood.Regards Paul.

Of course it tasted pleasent, that is the way it is supposed to be eaten. It never ceases to amaze me that people burn purfectly good meat and then tell everyone that they enjoy the taste. Who are they kidding?

Hi Shaun Have to agree with you on that one - if people want their meat half cooked - burn them a cheap beefburger & be done with it. Steak & liver in my house is lucky to even see the pan when I bring it home , so always have to make sure I have an alternative for everyone else incase I've eaten it all raw before they've come home Ju

Only deprived people eat meat that has not been cooked properly. Heathens both of you!
Meat should be marinaded preferably for 24 hours and then cooked slowly to allow all the juices to fully mature the alcohol.
This does not mean meat should be burnt - just cooked carefully!
There is only one thing to do with burnt food - steak , beef burgers whatever isn't there Anne!
Which is the real reason why Shaun doesn't burn his!

Ewa, don´t worry. I toled OLli to leave his gun at home, although he was a little bis sad about that I also toled him that there is no way of fishing either. Of course we do not want to hunt, I hate hunting. The owner of the house can organise hunting trips but no way Olli is going to shoot sweet and innocent little animals! I toled Bakkies the same but I am not shure if he understood me correctly. *grmpf* Elk and Chilli.. Hmmmm... sounds good *mjamjam* Abel - next time you go for a trip to scandinavia you have to stop here! I am really looking forward to this holiday. Our house has a 10.000 square meters garden, next neighbour is 1 km away and (please do not tell Bakkies!) a little boad near the lake. This will be great fun!

Geri How can you desecrate meat with alcohol - the latter is meant to be drunk & as for marinade I come from a family of very large rugby players - so you had to stab your fork into them to stand any chance of a dinner!

Ju,
Is it only rugby players that you eat? So that's the meat and bone for BARF taken care of, what about the out of date vegetables?
